Characters in Hamlet
As we read Hamlet, you will be assigned a character and be responsible for tracking the character. The tracking of your character will count as DJs and you will analyze the character throughout reading the play. You will complete the following while analyzing your assigned character:
§ Motivation
§ Personality
§ Interactions/feelings with other characters
§ Any important soliloquys or speeches that reveal insight into the character
Note: if your character changes, you definitely need to make note of it.

3.) Using Polonius' speech as a model, write advice to a new student at your school. How do you navigate the social scene? What foods should you avoid in the cafeteria? etc. 1/2 CP. 3/4 page H
3.) You are Hamlet's therapist-You will look into the way Hamlet behaves toward Orphelia.
The therapist might ask Hamlet to talk about his past relationships,his current feelings towards Ophelia, his dreams—be creative, and see what you can uncover about Hamlet's behavior in Ophelia's room. Was he trying to say something in code? What are his priorities right now, and where does Ophelia come into his plans? (1 page H; 1/2 page CP)
4.) Emulation: After reading Hamlet's "To Be or Not to Be" soliloquy emulate his style.

5.) Period 7: Update character tracking. Write a monologue from the Queen's POV when Hamlet confronts her (3/4 page). Period 3:
Write a journal entry, from the Queen’s point of view, on one of the following moments (3/4 page):
a. The night before she married Hamlet, Sr. What were the thoughts running through her mind? Was she a willing participant? What qualities (positive and negative) did Hamlet possess? What are her hopes for the future?
b. The night before Hamlet, Jr., went away to college. What is her life like now? What is her relationship with Hamlet, Sr? What are her hopes for the future?
c. The night before her wedding to Claudius. (Reread Act 1, Scene 2 before you write.) What are her feelings about the death of Hamlet, Sr., and her upcoming marriage? Did she help in the murder, or was she innocent?
d. The night that Polonius is killed, when Hamlet talks to her in her bedroom and sees the ghost of his father. (Reread Act 3, Scene 4 before you write.) What does she think about the unfolding events? What is her reaction to Hamlet's remarks and questions? What does she think will happen next?
6.) For Honors only: After viewing the two different movie versions of 4.5, compare and contrast the two interpretations. What worked well and why? What didn't work well and why? What was left out? Were Ophelia and the Queen acting the way you had envisioned? Also consider the setting, delivery of lines, etc. Write your response using specific examples from the two videos. 2 pages

"Remembrance of Yours"…Analyzing characters using mementos (Folger Shakespeare)
Using your character tracking DJs, you will complete a project on the following:
1.) Creative piece: Create a 3-D symbol for your character (this cannot be a symbol found in the play). You creation should reflect hard work and attention to detail. The symbol should be original and accurately illustrate your characters, as a whole.
2.) Written piece: a detailed explanation how the symbol connects with your character; 5 quotations from the play, with an explanation, on the relation of the symbol to the character.
3.) Presentation!
